Straddle

A live straddle bet is allowed in all blind games. The player who posts the straddle has the last action for the first round of betting and is allowed to raise. The amount of the straddle is twice the big blind unless otherwise specified. Unless otherwise noted on a game placard, a player can straddle from either under the gun or from the button, with the button having precedence. The minimum allowed raise after the straddle is three times the big blind. Unless indicated on the game placard, a mandatory straddle will not be enforced, even if every player at the table agrees; a new player will not be forced to straddle. The button straddle is not allowed in limit games.

The Decision of the Floorperson is Final

The Decision of the Floorperson is Final. Management reserves the right to make decisions which are as fair and equitable as possible. Therefore, under extreme circumstances, it may decide to award a pot or decision to a participant who is clearly entitled to it in the spirit of the rule rather than using the literal interpretation.

Odd chips in split pots

In the unusual situation that there is a split pot, and the money does not come out evenly: the dealer should break down the chips to the lowest chip denomination normally used in the game. For instance, in a $5-$10 game – in a split pot – $25 chips will be broken down into $5 chips, but $5 chips will not be broken down into $1 chips. Money left over less than this chip amount will be given to the player in the worst position (closest to the button), or the first player to show down.

No players remain

In the unusual situation that all players with an interest in a pot fold their cards during a showdown, the pot should be awarded to the player closest to the button, or the player who should have shown first, whichever applies.

In the case of side-pots, only players who have put money into the side-pot are eligible to win that side-pot. If all players with an interest in a side-pot fold, the side-pot should be awarded to the player closest to the button, or the player who should have shown first, whichever applies.

In a tournament, when all players are all in an no betting remains but cards are to come, the players must table their cards before the dealer proceeds to deal the next round of cards. The winner should always show their hole cards in a tournament.

In a cash game, in the situation where all opponents fold their hole cards face down during showdown, and there is only one remain player, the last remaining player does not have to show their hand, because the hand is over as they have no remaining opponents. In some casinos, a player may request to see the winning hand, however, in no case should the losing player who mucked first [and thus did not show their hole cards], be allowed to request to see the hand. This is the reason in some casinos only active players in the showdown may request to see hands that are being mucked face down. Some casinos allow any player at the table to request to see face down mucks.

In home games, the rules may be different. In some home games you can carry a pot from one hand into the next hand. This never happens in a casino.

Small blind throws one oversized chip

Horseshoe Casino WSOP Poker Room, Las Vegas, Nevada
$3-$5 NLH

Situation

The small blind has posted 3 $1 chips. No raises. When it get around to the SB, the player grabs a red chip from his stack, then reaches in and grabs the 3 $1 chips, picks them up, throws the four chips for $8 forward toward the pot, and doesn’t say anything. What is the bet?

Human Floor – Anthony

Facing a bet, a single oversized chip is a call. However, this player actually made more than one move. The first move was pulling in the three dollar chips, and the second move was throwing them back in. Had the player simply thrown in the $5 chip, it would be a call. However, Anthony ruled that this player is actually betting $8, which is more than half the required amount to raise. Therefore, it is a raise to $10.
